I would like to assemble a collection of tools that are available to assist farmers and their advisers in learning how to implement precision farming technologies in their operations. This is a wide-open topic, so I will attempt to keep responses organized as they come in. I am looking for "How to..." ideas from people who have either developed training materials or people who have worked out a procedure that they really like. If there is a cost associated with the training material, please note that. If it is freely available, what is the source. I would also like to develop a listing of training programs that are available. What, when, where, who is in charge, etc.

I look forward to any responses and ideas.

Nice Group to have on here.

I look forward to the development of this group. There is certainly an ongoing need for training - both for precision ag providers like myself and the customers we serve.

I work here in Australia in the precision farming industry and would welcome any information/news on training programs for potential users of precision equipment.

I am working on developing beginner to advanced Precision Ag classes that will be made available to farmers that range from the curious to those looking for what's up and coming in the industry. Does anyone have any material that they think would be useful? I plan on creating animated tutorials using any new materials or information I get, which will eventually be made available to the public on our website (www.umac.org) for anyone to download. My background is mostly remote sensing, GIS and aerial imagery, so I'm a little weak on the Precision Ag side of the equation. I'm willing to provide information if anyone needs material on the subjects I am familiar with.

I think there should be a business started that holds training sessions for farmers and consultants to have hands on training in precision AG. I do think that some equipment retailers do not think guys in their 50's understand Precision AG. I have experience in it, but was told by the local dealer that he let his 20 year old shop person handle the precision ag department.

The idea of a business or an individual putting together precision ag classes explaining the how to's is perfect. Even putting together classes through a web session would be good. I believe that is the number one item that slows utilization of precision ag - lack of training and understanding.

Anyone who does hear of training sessions on or offline, please post it so we can participate.

We are now at 43 members in this group. If any of you plan to be at the 10th Int'l Conference on Precision Agriculture next month, maybe we could schedule a short meeting to talk about training needs and opportunities. Since I recently retired, I have some time to work on developing training sessions if there is enough interest. Any comments and suggestions are welcome!

In the UK the issue of precision farming training is high on the agenda, but how and what is delivered is the tough question. Product specific training should be delivered by suppliers and generally it should be done to a higher quality than now.

Equally there has to be a series of courses that explain the theoretical side of PF to equip farmers and growers with the confidence to ask the right questions at the right time and not to feel undermined by their lack of knowledge.

We're thinking along the lines of the following courses:
1) Precision farming for combine operators
2) Precision farming and farm agronomy
3) Precision farming for guidance and automation
4) Precision farming, does it pay
5) Precision farming for operators
6) Precision Farming for agronomists
7) Precision farming for machinery suppliers
8) Precision farming for advisors and organisations

A full list and details is here

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. The pilot courses were really well received and we're looking for a September/October delivery.
