Guidance app

I am Travis Lamm, a sophomore at NC State university majoring in field crop production. recently some fellow farmers and i were discussing making an app for the iOS operating system (apple ipad, ipod, iphone ect.) that would essentially be a lightbar guidance system utilizing the ipad 2 internal WAAS reciever. the problem that we have run into is that none of us have any programming experience what would be a good step to take at this point?
