Ed, I have been surprised at the number of ag leaders who are using social networking. I find it really helps me to keep in touch with a wide range of people. It is simple and quick. Then you can follow up with more detailed contact if you need to.…

Welcome. Don't miss a recent post on the role of extension and precison ag. Not sure how this site is going to work out, but it is an interesting experience. Ed

Ed Barnes replied to Paul Schrimpf's discussion 'Extension and Precision'
The survey results on extension do seem consistent with feedback I have received from many of our cotton producers, but there are exceptions out there. From a generic extension standpoint, I have been disappointed that county agents and state…

Social networks and farming???

It will be very interesting to see how this works. I do not have experience with this media, but have been involved in discussions about how it can be used for ag. This appears a good example to try out.

Welcome to the Network, Ed! I think "what it is" really depends on us. I have already picked up some good information and contacts, and am looking forward to seeing this network grow, Social networking initially seemed to be more for keeping in touch with old high school friends, but I am seeing it get a lot of traction on the business side. The younger generation has definitely picked it up, but some of us older folks are getting into it now. With InfoAg 2009 coming up soon, it is helping us get some program and speaker ideas.

Hello, Ed,
Appreciate the note. I went to work with Helena on Dec. 1, and am really enjoying the fun and challenge of this new Agronomist Role. Precision Ag development is one of my areas here in my division. I look forward to future interactions with the work you and Cotton Inc. do, as well as elsewhere in the industry.
